5 Items You Need in Your Vehicle During a Natural Disaster (Besides the Obvious)

If you live in an area that is prone to natural disasters, then you know the drill. You stock up on non-perishable food items, water, and batteries. You have a first-aid kit and a flashlight ready to go. But what about your vehicle? Is it prepared to weather a storm?

1. Spare Tire and Jack
This one is a no-brainer. If you get a flat tire, you're going to want to have a spare ready to go. Plus, having a jack can come in handy for other things as well (we'll get to that later).

2. Jumper Cables
If your battery dies, jumper cables will be a lifesaver. Be sure to check that they are in good condition and know how to use them before you need them.

3. A Full Tank of Gas
Ideally, you should always keep your tank at least half full. But during a natural disaster, it's best to err on the side of caution and fill it up all the way. That way, if you need to evacuate, you won't have to worry about running out of gas.

4. Extra blankets and clothing
If you get stranded, extra blankets and clothing can help keep you warm until help arrives. Pack seasonally appropriate items so that you're prepared no matter when disaster strikes.

5. A Multi-Tool
A multi-tool is an incredibly versatile piece of equipment. It can be used for anything from fixing a loose screw to opening a can of food. In a pinch, it can even be used as a weapon (although we hope it won't come to that). Keep one in your glove box just in case.
